Yidong Zhao receives Hong Kong PhD Fellowship

We are extremely pleased to announce that Yidong Zhao has been selected to be a recipient of the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship this year and will join our group in September 2019. Currently he is pursuing his M.S. degree in Architectural Civil Engineering at Tongji University, where he also earned his B.S. degree as a Shanghai Outstanding Graduate in 2016. He has been the winner of China National Scholarships (two times), a National Second Prize in the 10th Zhou Pei-Yuan Mechanics National College Competition, and a First Prize in the 1st Mechanics Competition of Shanghai, among many others.

Yidong’s PhD research will focus on computational methods for large deformation problems in geomechanics. His official co-supervisor will be Prof. Kenichi Soga of the University of California, Berkeley.

Big congratulations!

Fan Fei joins the group as Hong Kong PhD Fellow

We are extremely pleased to announce that Fan Fei is joining the group as our first PhD student—receiving the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship. He is currently a final year undergraduate student in the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Hong Kong. He has shown outstanding academic performance throughout his undergraduate years, which has been recognized by a number of awards including the C.L. Tse Prize in Civil Engineering, the Leung Ting Kui Scholarship, and Dean's honours lists in every academic year during his undergraduate studies. His Hong Kong PhD Fellowship is another firm evidence of his exceptional academic credentials.

Fei's PhD research will focus on the development of computational geomechanics and multiphysics approaches to the stability assessment of underground rocks subjected to complex structural and environmental loads.

Big congratulations!
